Comic’s name: Derelict

What is the comic about: from the TV Tropes page: “Derelict is a science fiction webcomic set in a post-flood world, written and drawn by Ben Fleuter (also the author of Galactic Maximum). It’s about Dang Thu Mai, a lone scavenger living on a boat and coping with her surroundings. Complicating matters is an otherworldly fog which shrouds the world, and hides the so-called “Miasmic Races”, monstrous yet intelligent beings, most of whom possess nothing but ill will for humanity.”

How is comic drawn: Detailed American-Style Comic Book art. Muted, dark coloring to add to the post-apocalyptic feel. Very reminiscent of Geoff Darrow. Looks like something you’d see in a Vertigo book or Heavy Metal magazine.

How often updated: Every Monday

What else does the website offer: Fan art section, animated Trailer, Forums, shopzone, soundtrack, TV tropes list.

What do I think of the site’s overall design: Very bold, moody site design with excellent use of background images and big, easy-to-find icons. The dark colors of the site fit the colors of the webcomic, and the overall site design is very well-put together, with a slick, professional feel to it.

What do I like about the strip:  This is a new take on the whole post-apocalyptic, world-run-by aliens trope. I like the detailed art, and the story is pretty minimalist, but it doesn’t waste a lot of time with exposition. You get right into what is happening, and it is up to you to figure out what is going on and why.

Why should YOU read it: This is a beautifully rendered sci-fi survival story. Check it out.

ESRB rating: PG14.
